Whatever your situation might be we want to show you the techniques professionals use to get delicious dishes looking so damn good. When it comes down to food, lighting is the key. Dishes will look much more dramatic if lighted from the back or from the side, because the shadows improve the texture of the food. Backlighting is a good option because it will give you special results such as faded or veiled backgrounds. However it requires careful handling of lights and shadows. Maybe the most natural lighting would be the one coming from the side of the camera, because it touches the food obliquely and it creates soft shadows.
